I was invited to co-facilitate a 2 day leadership workshop recently. As part of preparing for it I was sent, and researched, leadership literature such as Daniel Goleman etc. The focus was very much on learning how to apply different styles of leadership in different situations and with different people.
I couldn't find anything about the impact on our leadership abilities of the way we 'lead' ourselves. Try using an 'Authoritative' style when you are feeling low, or 'Democratic' style when you are feeling angry.
We also learned that the role of gender and sexuality on leadership style sparked a very lively and polarised discussion amongst the delegates. Something to be continued in future work.
