The Chinese medicine law of 'Mother/Child' reminds acupuncturists to always look for, and address, the cause of a problem, rather than only the symptom itself.
The name comes from the fact that if a baby is crying because its mother cannot feed it, it is little use only trying to deal with the baby. The mother has to be got better if the child is to recover.
The story relates well to dealing with problems involving people in organisations. Often, whatever is making the most noise or drawing the most attention as the 'problem' only masks the true cause.
If that cause is not found and addressed, the chances are the problem will be unresponsive to standard solutions.
